I was born and raised in a ghetto area in Chicago, known as Humboldt Park.
Both of my parents were born in Puerto Rico. My biological mother mentally and physically abused me. At the age of 14, I was adopted by an American family who worked for Christian Record Braille foundation (Roy and Mary Berg). I went to Broadview Academy where I graduated in 1988, with an enrichment in music! (Just for the record I don’t sing, so unless you want to clear a room don’t ask me).
I attended Andrews University for only a couple of years. I had to leave because I couldn’t afford to keep attending, which left me with no degree, at least not on paper. I moved to Grand Rapids because I found a job there. I have two beautiful daughters, one who currently teaches at Grand Rapids Adventist Academy, where she attended from Kindergarten through Senior year, and the other who will be a sophomore at Andrews this coming fall.
I moved back to Andrews in 2019, not because I wanted to, but because of an answered prayer from my then 8th grader who wanted to attend Andrews Academy, who actually graduated from Great Lakes Adventist Academy in 2023! I moved because I knew this is what the Lord wanted me to do.
I was the Office Manager for Dining Services at Andrews University. Of course you all know that less then a year after that, COVID happened! I received a promotion to Director of Operations in 2021, and in 2023 I accepted another call to work for the Legal Counsel at Andrews as the Executive Assistant, which is my current position.
This is a long story made short of some of the many blessings bestowed on me by God. Trust me when I say that it would take hours, if not days, to share my complete story. I currently sit on both the Michigan and the Lake Union Conference Executive committees. I am a true believer that if you chose to follow the mission God has for you, He will equip you with the skills and surround you with the people needed to complete His mission, be that here or aboard. So, “as for me and my house,” I chose to serve the Lord… even if it meant I had to leave the house I was born into!
